VRH continues to seek out new homes for Burton hockey. This week, Lorne gives us a recap of VRHs escapades in West Vancouver.

Well after some confusion about where we were to play it was decided we would try the Ambleside Park. Its a smaller rink (perfect for 2 on 2 full court) but with much better nets. So today we had Lorne, Laird, Joern, Bernie and Jerod come out.

The first game was Lorne and Bernie vs. Jerod and Joern. It turned out to be the longest game as we were all adjusting to the new rink and trying to figure out positioning. After a quick 3 goal lead by Jerod and Joern, Bernie and Lorne finally clicked a couple of times and made the game 3-2. But after a few more chances Jerod and Joern were victorious at 5-2.

The second game saw Lorne and Jerod against Bernie and Joern. This, however was a much quicker game that saw Bernie and Joern struggle to find each other. Lorne and Jerod got out to a very quick 4 goal lead, but the shutout possibility was to be closed by an Iggy type of showing by Joerns coast to coast goal. Bernie then netted one of his own soon later and the game was stationary at 4-2 for a little while. But eventually Lorne and Jerod scored to win the game 5-2.

The final game was Joern and Lorne vs. Bernie and Jerod. To begin with, Joern and Lorne had difficulty adjusting, while Bernie and Jerod gelled quickly which resulted in them winning the game by (yet again) 5-2.

Overall a very good session that resulted in about 2.5 hours of playing time. In honour of the new NHL rules we decided to have a shootout of our own to end our session. It saw Lorne place first, Bernie second, Jerod third, and Joern placing fourth. Laird still played very well but the larger nets are reflected in his stats as he went from .898 last session to .792 this session. Another session is planned for next weekend so the VRH seems to be taking off.

Useless Stats: Due to some personal conflicts, Im having to upload two sessions at once. So check out the 17 September session write-up or the Records and Honours page for your useless stats fix. One important tidbit- VRH has now played enough session to send players into full point value on the SDF, and are they making a mark! The high-scoring conditions in Vancouver have sent Jerod into a record-breaking SDF value of 144.665 with Lorne in second and Stefan fifth. This ends Dallass time on top at 11 sessions. Laird also regains his traditional place on top of the GDF at .816 ahead of Brodie.
