A shocking development in Burton as the gang actually gets their shit together and plays- on a weekday, nonetheless!

The first of hopefully many after-work hockey sessions. Unfortunately, this one was marred by great goaltending and a stifling defensive system. Chris returns to Burton Hockey in style, and Nathan takes to the skates to face his nemesis on different terms.

Series 1: Lee Nathan Seamus vs. Justin Watsy Chris Game 1: 5-3 Team Justin.
Chris's return is victorious. With Watsy and Justin forcing Lee and Nathan to the outside, good scoring opportunities are difficult to come by. Justin scores all five and outshoots Team Lee a stunning 38-24.

Game 2: 5-3 Team Justin.
Lee and Nathan just couldn't solve the defense, and when they did Chris was equal to the task. Despite a valiant effort from Seamus they go down 5-3 again. Justin shines, getting in on every point and finishing the game with a five-hole dazzler.

Thanks, Lee. That is a crazy boxscore. Easily the best goaltending session between both goalies we’ve ever seen in Burton. Chris won the day with an amazing career high of .905, compared to Seamus’ otherwise excellent .868. As far as the skaters, Justin becomes just the second player ever to mathematically max out the scoresheet in a session, scoring ten points in two games (Jared MacDonald accomplished this back in 2000; Robert Rogers, Dustin Blair and Lee are the only others to have factored in on every one of their team’s goals in a session). Watsy posts his first career second-star performance, helping on five of Justin’s goals and chipping in two of his own. Lee averaged a ‘paltry’ three PPG to notch third star. And the shots on goal here are ridiculous for just two games!

Useless Stats: Justin becomes the eleventh player this season to reach 100 points, tying a record set back in 2000. Assuming VRH plays as often as they hope through the rest of the year, it is still possible more can join the list. Lee becomes the first-ever player to record 1,000 shots in a season. Chris needs 38 saves for 1,000. Seamus is one game behind Lorne for fifth in games goaltended. Lee moves back to averaging 2.00 GPG. Justin rockets to second in shots-per-game. Seamus passes Lorne for second in saves-per-game. Chris’ .905 ranks third in save percentage this year for a session. Lee continues to dominate the SDF ahead of a tight race for second between K.J., Dallas and Stefan (taking first star this weekend would almost certainly move Stefan to second). Justin rises one spot to fifth. Nathan leads the GDF for a ninth-straight session (one short of tying his own record), but Seamus is right behind him and closing.

On the all-time front: Justin needs six more points to reach 700; he is 25 behind Bernie in fourth. Lee needs one assist for 400, and is within 100 shots of Lorne for the all-time lead. Seamus’ all-time leading save-percentage goes to .822. Chris is just 32 saves behind Nathan for second, and one game behind Laird for most games goaltended (he’ll also be happy to know his bio has finally been updated). Justin passes Oliver for fourth in three-star points. Seamus passes Pat for fourth in saves-per-game. Chris’s .905 ranks fifth-best for a session ever; this is the sixth time someone has broken .900 in a session. Only the Koth-Kappii have played more consecutive sessions than Lee, whose streak goes to 24. Seamus is at 16 and Justin is at 12. Graeme’s streak ends at 13. Check out the Records and Honours page before you go. BUSH plans on more weeknight sessions, which is more than welcome as we enter the last part of the year. VRH has a session scheduled for Saturday, let’s hope the weather (and marauding soccer team trying to take the rink away) holds out for them.
