So, yesterday we thought all hope was lost for hockey, until Joern got a call at around 10pm from Pedro saying he really, really wanted to play today. Joern told him that the session was balancing on him, seeing that he would make it 2 on 2 with goalies. Upon confirmation that he would be there, I contacted Bron and got the session set up for today.

Well, needless to say, the Brazilian didn't show up, leaving us with 5 guys sitting around at Ambleside. We decided we would play 2 on 2 half- court. Teams were setup, the Koth-Kappi versus the Master Bladers.

Team Kappi opened the scoring quick and early with a nice feed from Oliver to Bernie in the slot. Soon there after on a similar play Bernie made the score 2-0. After this point Stefan and Joern realized they were both defending against the same player, which led to Bernie being wide open. After strategizing they tightened up defensively and started to dominate play. While they retained possession for most of the play, they had a really tough time getting the puck down low in front of the net. Not to mention when they did they would get shut down by Bron. Eventually on a take away Stefan scored from the point with a slap shot to cut the lead in half. Soon thereafter with Stefan continuing to play the point, Joern gave him a feed, for him to score his second slap shot goal of the game.

Team Kappi came back and made the score 3-2 on another Bernie goal, after Team Master Bladers had a goal called back due to it being kicked in. The Master Bladers put the heat back on however, as Joern and Stefan continued to connect, with Stefan scoring another 2 goals, giving the Master Bladers their first lead of the game.

The lead was short lived; however after a funny bounce produced Bernie a gaping net to shoot into. The game then went into another big defensive showdown, with a lot of shots but no goals resulting. At one moment it looked as if the game had ended when Oliver kicked in a goal, however after discussion the goal was revoked to leave the game in a 4-4 stalemate. At this moment, however, Bernie already left for the bench and was taking his skates off. Joern scored a goal with Stefan and Joern taking on Oliver 2 on 1, however they decided not to keep the goal as they wanted to win fairly 2 on 2. So at this time everyone took a break, Popsicles were eaten, and equipment was taken off. Oliver actually thought we had stopped playing and was packing up his equipment, until he was told the game required a finish.

The last goal didn't take too much longer to get scored. After some sustained pressure from Bernie and Oliver, team Master Bladers finally got the puck back into possession, and made the most of their opportunity with a 5th goal by Stefan, assisted by Joern.

A pretty hot, slow, and defensive half court session that was very reminiscent of the last session that was played. At least we got a session in, I suppose.

Another short session keeps the Burton movement plodding along one game at a time. Stefan scored all five goals for his team to take the day. Joern assisted on those four goals, and Bernie scored four of his own, tying those two for second. Bron was a one-man show in goal, stopping 57 of 66 shots for a save percentage of .864.

Season Stats: Stefan moves to 91 points, putting the top four scorers this season all within six points of one another. Stefan also jumps into second in goals and needs just one more for his third 50-goal season. Oliver ties Justin for third in assists. Stefan needs four shots for 300. Bron moves back above .800 on the season, and is five saves behind Joern for third. Stefan moves into second in three-star points and fourth in GPG. Bron moves to third in saves-per-game; his .864 ranks as the fourth-best session of the year.

On the all-time front: Joern passes 300 assists. Bron passes 900 saves. Stefan needs one game for 300. Bron passes Pat for second in all-time saves-per-game. Bernie’s consecutive session streak goes to 14, and Stefan’s to 9. Lorne’s streak ends at 8.

SDF/GDF: Lorne and K.J. continues to reign on the scoring and goaltending charts.

Well, at least it was something.

Not only can you check out the Records and Honours as usual, you can now browse through session photos! We won’t tell you which sessions have photos, though; that’ll ruin the surprise!
