After an agonising three month delay, we finally have Burton Hockey. Joy of joys. Here’s Stefan with an abbreviated summary of Saturday’s action:

It has been almost 3 months now since we last played, so it was a real pleasure to get out outside on Saturday and get some games in. It was a small session with just 7 of us there, but was good fun nonetheless. We managed to get 7 games in; all of which were pretty well balanced in terms of teams. With that said all series (except the final 1 game series) was won by the team with Bernie on it (also the team with 3 skaters). Great to get back out there playing. Hopefully now that people’s travel schedules have slowed down a bit, we shall get a few more series in before the rain starts.

Thanks, Stefan! This was the highest-scoring session so far in this shortened season. Stefan led the session in scoring as expected with eighteen goals and ten assists for 28 points on 63 shots, but Sam broke out big time with 10G-11A-21P-39S. Oliver finished in third with an unusually high (for him) goals-to-assist ratio and shot count with 11G-5A-16P-45S. The goaltenders were fairly even all session, with Bron winning .762 to .752. over Lorne, who had five assists (very high for a goalie).
Here are the game results:
Sam, Stefan, Bernie, Bron def. Joern, Oliver, Lorne 4-5 5-1 5-2
Joern, Oliver, Bernie, Lorne def. Sam, Stefan, Bron 5-4 2-5 5-2
Stefan, Oliver, Lorne def. Joern, Bernie, Sam, Bron 5-4

Season Stats: It is now no longer close. Stefan has opened up a massive 37-point lead on Lorne and now has his third career 100-point season. Oliver moves into third ahead of Bernie and the absent Ryan. It’s a big drop to Joern and Sam in sixth and seventh. Stefan hits fifty goals for the third time. Oliver is now tied with Ryan for third in goals. Stefan leads Bernie, Oliver, and Lorne in assists. Oliver passes Bernie for fourth in shots. Sam moves to fifth in shooting percentage. Bron hands the save percentage lead back to Chris. Lorne passes Joern for third in saves. Bron passes Ryan for fifth in games played. Stefan’s 28 points is tops by far this year; Sam’s 21 is tied for third. Stefan’s 18 goals tie for fourth-highest. Sam’s 11 assist tie Ryan for the most in a session this year, while Stefan’s 10 are right behind in third. Stefan’s 63 shots rank second. Lorne’s 88 saves rank third, and Bron's 80 rank fifth. Still no shutouts this year.

On the all-time front: Stefan is just three points behind Justin for sixth in all-time scoring, and needs fourteen points for 800. Oliver passes Seamus for third all-time in goals. Lorne is one assist behind Seamus for third. Joern passes K.J. for eighth in shots. Bron passes Seamus for sixth in saves. Lorne needs 89 saves to become the ninth goalie to make 1,000 saves. Lorne passes Laird to move into third in games played; Joern passes Seamus for sixth. Stefan passes Oliver for fourth in three-star points and needs five for 400. Bron falls from second to third in saves-per-game. The APG lead falls back to Brian, and saves-per-game falls back to Chris. Sam scores ten goals, ten assists, and twenty points in a session for the first time. Stefan scores ten assists for the tenth time, tied for fourth all-time. Oliver records his 30th 15-pointer and Stefan his 25th. Stefan ties Lee for third in 20-pointers with 15; he has back-to-back 20 pointers. Bernie plays in consecutive session #19, Stefan #15, Joern #10, Oliver #8, and Lorne #5.

SDF/GDF: Lorne stays on top for the second ranking in a row as VRH now takes over control of the ranking. No BUSH player has multiple full sessions left, and it shows with most BUSH players dropping. Stefan and Oliver move to second and third, followed by a big drop to Ryan in fourth and Sam’s excellent session shooting him thirteen places up to sixth. K.J’s save volume saves his lead in the GDF; despite only playing four games in goals in the past sixteen months, he amazingly has the third-most saves of anyone in that time span (168 saves in four games; compare to Joern’s 190 saves in 18 games). Bron moves to second, and an .800 session next time will give him the lead as K.J’s second-to-last session will fall off. If he doesn’t, K.J. will then have been on top for a record eleventh consecutive session.

Just when all hope was lost and a promising season had been stopped dead in its tracks, another session brings hope back to us all. Summer must be here! Check out those Records and Honours before you leave, and hopefully we’ll have another session to write up at some point.
