Once again we had enough people for a large rink so this session was held at Queen-E Park again. Recruiting a stray player (Jason) allowed us to get a game going before our reinforcements arrived. However, soon after, a troop of foot hockey players arrived and kept hassling us for the rink, even though the larger rink was totally empty. After a couple of games and persistent hassling we decided to oblige them and switched rinks. Luckily another straggler (Ken) joined boosting our numbers making it a little more feasible to play on the larger (full hockey size) rink. The game changed dramatically here with an abundance of room, resulting in many more odd-man rushes and shear speed became more of a factor. We attempted 5 on 5 for one game but that seemed a little too crowded and scrambled, so we went back to 4 on 4. Employing one more straggler (Marcus) allowed us to play one final game even after Eric and Jordan left. We had a number of different teams and series throughout, with most games being fairly close minus a couple of exceptions. It should also be noted that the goaltending today was very solid, despite the possibility of relatively poor stats due to the wide open play and full-size NHL regulation nets.
Thanks, Bern. With skaters floating in and out of the session all day, the disjointed feel produced disjointed stats. Lorne absolutely ran away with the entire afternoon, regaining his dominant form of previous years with 15G and 8A in the seven games. You have to go all the way down to 13 points to find second-place Ryno with 7G-6A. The only other player in double digits today was Stefan at 6G-5A. Marcus certainly seemed to leave an impression in his only game. One would have to blame the rink conditions for the goaltending results. Bron takes the day .755-.739 over Dom.
