With Fridays session being way too hot, Sundays was planned to start at 7. A last minute addition resulted in the long awaited return of Logan Marchischuk or "the Cheese" to the nets of Burton Hockey. Arriving first, Logan donned the pads and was in the net faster than any goalie I have ever witnessed. Ollie and myself took 5 minutes longer than him just to get into our skates. Minutes later, Seamus would arrive to see Logan fully equipped, and then storm out the car demanding Logan relinquish some of the good equipment only to find Logan had intentionally left Seamus the good stick and shoulder pads. A stunning revelation. Chivalry between goalies? Unheard of. (Insert photo of Seamus and Justin fighting over blocker here). Finding the normal goalie routine shaken, Seamus got back to the old ways and very, very slowly donned the rest of his equipment. Though, to his credit, he finished his warm-up smoking his cigarette and the game commenced.

The weather started perfect but the horizon was ominous and the pace was quick out the gates. Both goalies started slow with goals coming fast. Team Kyle would go up early, but Team Ollie battled back to take it to overtime before Kyle buried the winner. Sides were switched and Team Ollie started strong, going up 2-0 before the wheels fell off. Team Kyle played a tight puck control game and broke up Team Ollie’s passes. They rolled to 4 straight goals while Logan really found his groove and what he didn't stop hit the post. In one sequence Lee hit 3 posts on 5 five shots. After a beautiful back and forth from Lee and Ollie that just evaded a Logan poke check they came back to tie it at 4-4. Seamus stopped Kyle on a breakaway and soon after Lee buried a slapper from Ollie to take the game.

The rain had started and the court got slippery in a hurry. The break was halted to play a rubber match, which would be the final game of the day. Game 3 was a slower affair as a couple quick falls led to a reduction in pace. Rolling to a quick 4-1 lead Team Ollie struggled to beat Logan to finish and Seamus shut the door on Team Kyle. Ollie buried one from the slot and everybody ran to get out the gear as the rain turned into a total downpour.

Thanks, Lee! A short but enjoyable session while it lasted. Lee led the way today with two point-outs and 14P (10G-4A). Tag team partner Oliver finished second at 4G-7A, while Kyle finished out of the top two for the first time in his last 19 skating sessions at 8G-2A. In goal, Seamus returned to net and picked up right where he left off at .817, plus seven assists in just three games. Logan, in his first session since 4 May 2000, sets a record for the longest absence between sessions in Burton Hockey history at 10 years, 1 month, and 23 days. His previous session was .778 and 49 saves; this one was .774 and 48 saves. Wacky. He does manage to score his first ever points in Burton more than a decade after his debut.

Here are the game scores:
Oliver Lee Seamus def. Kyle Nathan Logan 4-5 5-4 5-2

Season Stats: Lee is just one point short of 600 on the year. Nathan is seven points behind Pat for third, 348-341. Oliver is four points behind Stefan for fifth, 285-281. Kyle needs two goals for the first-ever 400-goal season in Burton history; Lee passes 300 goals and needs eight assists for 300. Oliver passes Dom for sixth in games played at 154, one behind brother Bernie. Oliver ties Stefan for fourth in three-star points at 95. Seamus is just five goalie star points behind leader Dom with 150. Kyle now sits at a 10.00 shots-per-average on the season.

On the All-Time Front: Lee needs two points for 2,300. Seamus moves to within 13 of Stefan for fourth and 20 away from 1,400. The race from third in all-time goals between Stefan, Oliver and Kyle is now 763-753-750. Kyle is two assists behind Justin for seventh. Oliver retakes second in shots-on-goal from Stefan; Kyle is 23 behind Lorne for fourth. Seamus needs 99 saves to become the eighth to hit 3,000. Lee needs three games for 800; Nathan passes Laird for ninth and needs seven for 500; he is the highest-ranked non-original player in games played. Seamus passes bron for second in goalie star points behind Nathan. With just three games today, scoring streaks are not affected. Seamus ties Justin for second in .800 sessions with 24; he has five in a row. He ties Nathan for the lead in .810 sessions also at 24 with five in a row. Seamus’ .830 streak ends at two. With only three games played today, his 14-session 80-saver streak is not affected. Lee plays his 17th straight session, Nathan his tenth, Kyle his seventh. Lee becomes the first player in history with two 300-goal campaigns. Seamus is the fifth goalie in history to tend 80 games in a single year, and his 150 goalie star points are the third-highest mark ever.

SDF/GDF: Pat stays number on the SDF. Kyle slips a bit but still easily remains second. Sam has an off-session fall off and rockets to third, and Lee’s win moves him up two spots to fourth. This knocks Marcus, Graeme and Tony down two spots each to fifth, sixth and seventh. Meanwhile, Alex’s stay on top of the GDF lasts two days as Seamus goes back over the playing minimum and retakes the top spot for the 22nd time (tied with Laird for third all-time). Dom has a horrid session fall off and is suddenly closing in on Alex for second.

Can BUSH get in a weekday session before the long weekend in Sun Peaks? Can they get the Heffley Creek session going at all? Until next time, check out the Records and Honours pages in the Links section.
