For the first time in a very long time we had a session without any of our dedicated goalies (Dom, Alex or Bron); we can only surmise that they were too busy burning Qu'rans on this particular day (Note: this is a joke in reference to a radical pastor in the US planning to burn the Muslim holy book on the 911 anniversary). Luckily, both Joern and Lorne were at this session, who reluctantly (more so in Lorne’s case) offered to play goal. With two maybes coming out (including newcomer Vincent ‘Beencent’ Garcia) and a couple of last minute confirmations, we were left with our largest number in a long, long time. With 11 skaters, it was decided that a 3 team tournament would be held.

After a few games to our surprise Dom showed up; due to being out of e-mail range and having had a dead phone the last couple days, he did not realize a session was on for Saturday until the last minute. The goalies decided to keep 3 goalies in, one for each team (kudos to Lorne who could have easily demanded to play out at this point).

The first tournament was won by Pat-Sam-Bernie-Joern, who ended the double round robin sporting a perfect 4-0 record. The second tournament was won by Pat-Rob-Eric-Lorne. After this a number of people left and a couple more regular games were played. Also of note was Lorne’s very aggressive goaltending style, especially him coming out to center, acting like a point man and trying to get (very weak) shots on goal.

Though the weather forecast had completely changed from Thursday night to Friday morning, the latter forecast ended up being spot on, with it being dry all day and only hints of drizzle beginning right as we were driving away from the rink.

To finalize this write-up I’ll leave you with this pre-game rap constructed by the HornStar himself (note: it is meant to go together with this beat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_InbSgG38eQ&feature=related)
Yo Yo Yo ...checkin in one two one two.....

Thanks for the beats, Joern. Despite missing the final series, Pat was still easily the scoring leader today and first star with 19G-7A on 51 shots. His teammate in Tournament 1, ‘Dayum’ Sam Lam, finished second on an even 11G-11A. Making it to 20 points as well were the two men who tied for third: Eric (10G-10A) and Stefan (7G-13A). Rob may have been in the mix as well had he played the full session with 16P in 7 games. In goal, Dom came up just short of .800 (.798) but still handily took goaltending honours and notched another shutout. Lorne led goaltending volume today 102 saves to 99 over Dom and finished at .756 to Joern’s .706.
