Today was another day of low numbers in what recently has become a trend in VRH. Despite the fewer players, VRH was honor with having the crippled Klopp aka Stuffin Numbers take stats for them. This would be no normal stats-taking session. Klopp imposed martial law on the stats by appointing a ‘no stats calling’ rule. If any player was to call out his or anyone else's points they would lose a point from their total, while goaltenders would lose 5 shots against.

The first series would pit Andrew, Eric, Lars and Dom (G) against Rob, Oliver, Jordan B, Bernie and Sam (G). On paper you would think Team Sam would match up well against Team Dom and be able to win a few games. However, with Rob coming off a 24 hour cyclethon and Oliver having to cope with an 11am start time, it wasn't in the cards for Team Sam. Team Dom swept the series 3-0, controlling most of the play and getting the majority of the shots.

Lars was out after Game 3 which left us with two even 3-on-3 teams. Teams were drawn up and a new series started. This time we would see Jordan, Eric, Bernie and Dom battle Rob, Andrew, Oliver and Sam. Game 1 would see Bernie and Jordan get their first victory of the day with each player putting up big points. Game 2 swung the other way with a massive beat down that would complete the cycle and have Oliver, Rob and Sam finally get wins. By this point the heat was beginning to wear on Bernie causing him to take frequent breaks. When this would happen a player from Team Sam would be come off to even up the numbers and let the teams play 2-on-2. This would cause for some awkward play, but in the end wouldn't matter. Team Sam would be victorious winning the series with a 5-3 victory and another dominating performance outshooting team Dom 35-18.

Game 7 started with a trade of Rob for Eric. Team Sam came out shooting and potted a couple goals to start the game. However quickly thereafter Jordan's leg cramped up and he was sidelined. Massage the leg was fruitless, which meant the end of this game. It was decided this game would be finished at a later date, and thus should be excluded from the day’s stats. The final game of the day put Oliver Rob and Dom up against Andy, Eric, Bernie, and Sam. This game was a typical of final games, in that it was hard and grueling both to watch and I am sure to play in. Rob was a force this game, blasting shots from everywhere, but the power play of team Sam would ultimately decide the game, despite Sam's complete lack of focus. During play on Dom's side of the rink, Sam would dance around his crease doing calisthenics. Sam was also the first victim of the stats calling rule, however hewas given back his 5 saves after he agreed to jump on the roof to fetch a ball. Ultimately another solid session in the books for VRH, albeit a bit unbalanced. Finally, I would be remiss not to mention that this day was filled with Glorious Sunshine and appears to have marked the start of spring.

Thanks, Stef! Another solid performance from Andrew today, with 10G-15A to lead the day. In second place was Eric, who had a 20-pointer of his own (11G-9A). Rob had 81 shots on goals but could only manage third (10G-8A). In goal, Dom was phenomenally consistent all day, with only one game below .823. He finished at .840 on 136 saves. Sam was also at his peak most of the day, and stopped 122 shots for .819.

Here are the game scores:
Andrew Eric Lars Dom def. Rob Oliver Jordan Bernie Sam 5-3 5-3 5-3
Rob Andrew Oliver Sam def. Jordan Eric Bernie Dom 2-5 5-1 5-3
Andrew Eric Bernie Sam def. Oliver Robert Dom 5-3

Season Stats: Andrew’s lead over second place increases to 79, but it’s now Rob in second place leading Oliver 165-164. With Rob in Europe over the next two months, however, this will change... Bernie passes Lee and the injured stats fascist to move into sixth... Jordan and Eric make it ten players this year to hit 100 points... Rob also finds himself second in goals with 78, as he passes Marcus and Tony... Oliver enters the top five in goals and is one goal behind Tony for fourth at 68... Jordan is just outside of the top five in assists behind Bernie... Rob passes Tony for second in shots on goal while Oliver passes Marcus for fourth... Sam passes Joe for third in goaltending at .787...Dom is 116 saves behind Alex for the lead with 1,086... Dom needs two games for 100; Oliver and Bernie, five... Rob passes Alex for fifth in games played; Sam and Jordan also pass Alex... Dom takes back the lead in games goaltended from Alex with 67... Eric passes Stefan for fifth in three-star points with 35... Dom passes Rob for third in total star points, 80-75... Andrew passes Lee for second in PPG with 2.98... Rob leaps into fourth in shots-per-game at 6.43... Andrew’s 15 assists today tie for the fifth-highest total of the year... Rob’s 81 shots on goal ties for the third-highest session of the year.

SDF/GDF: Another sea change on the SDF today. The razor thin margin between Andrew Smart and Ryan Bateman remains, but now it is Ryan who leads for the first time (essentially, it’s the difference between leading a seven-skater session, which Andy did today, versus a ten-skater session, which Andy did in the session from February that fell off). Eric jumps up three to ninth, pushing Marcus out of the top ten. Ryan becomes one of six players to lead both the SDF and GDF in their careers (and he’s played three sessions in his career!)... No positions change on the GDF as the surprising Jesse leads for a second week. Both Dom and Sam see their ratings improve, however.

Just want to mention as well, that Dom's team was quite often a little outmatched, causing him to make not just ordinary saves but many absolutely ridiculous (Tim Thomas against the Flyers -eque) saves. Definitely one of the top goaltending performances of the year IMO, right up there with Al's 880. If not for the last (powerplay) game where he had virtually no chance on the goals, his SV% would probably have been considerably higher as well.
