The session today was planned with Sam “The Grapefruit” Lam in mind, as the following day he would be moving out to the isolated town of Squamish to pursue classes in women’s studies. In any case, we were guaranteed to have decent numbers and fair weather on that day. After a little half-hour hiccup when Andy got a nutshot during warm-up, the game was on. Game 1 saw Andy, Rob and Ollie fire a ton of shots and eke out a 5-3 win against Tony, Jordan and Bernie. Game 2 wasn’t much different, but Rob had a point-out hat-trick game. Ryan showed up for game 3 and joined the weaker team, but Andy countered with a team-building assist-filled point-out again. At this point, Sam had already won 3 games and was pretty happy with having shown up today for his final session of the summer. Another attempt at tossing sticks in the middle, and we saw a dominating performance from Andy again. In game 5, Ollie came out strong and led the team to a satisfying 5-3 win. Dom played hard to fight off double-digit shots from all opposing players. That game, however, was the end of the day for three of the players. The session was finished with some 2-on-2 action, and Sam ended up losing his only game that day, going 5-1 for a solid session. VRH might see some tough weekends coming up this summer, as a goalie is now moving, Stef is off to some European jungle (as evidenced by his recent Facebook upload), and people are taking vacations left and right. Though it will not be the last session of the summer, it may prove to have been the hottest.

Thanks, Tony! It’s been a long and bumpy road for Sam in his first year as a full-time goaltender in VRH, but he ends his 2011 campaign in goal on a triumphant note, posting a career-best .861 and notching a shutout along the way. Dom actually outsaved Sam 99-87, but only finished at .780 on the day. Just as Sam dominated the crease, Andy dominated the scoresheet, with 9G-15A-25P in just six games. Despite missing the final game, Oliver put up 18 points to tie Rob, who played all six, for second. These three were well ahead in the boxscore at the end of the day

Kyle passes Lee for fourth in rakings led with 22... Tony plummets from fourth to seventh while rob jumps up two to eighth... Mitchell drops from the top dozen due to inactivity... Lots of big hits overall due to the loss of the big points from Day 1 of the SuperSession...
