After the disappointment of having a regular Thursday session cancelled due to lethargy, the return of Stefan Klopp to the Arrow Lakes valley forced the hand of most of the roller hockey regulars and a Saturday afternoon session took place. We were worried about the number of people; let us never do that again. A record fifteen people played in Saturday's session including four rookie fill-ins from Fauquier (Mike (Spike), Randy, Randy Jr. and Jerry; Mike is easily the youngest player ever in Burton hockey while Randy was the oldest). We also saw the return after four years of Forrest in goal. Four-on-four diagonally with two subs was a necessity for the first series, which produced the highest scoring series in Burton hockey history. Robert, Bernie, Laird, Jerry (who played the first three games in goal, then handing it over to Laird for the rest), Kyle, Jared, Mike and R.J. best Lorne, Stefan, Scott, Randy, Oliver, Graeme and Forrest 4-1 in a ridiculously scoring best-of-seven that left the goalies battered and bruised as for the first time ever, two goalies played a full session and sunk below the dreaded .600 (Forrest. 563, Jerry .528). The fact that Bernie's van arrived just as the game started only made things worse as he, Oliver and Graeme got thrown in the middle of the first game. Bernie, in fact, would have to drop out after three games when his skate essentially blew up, meaning he had to spend the rest of the session watching with guests Chris and Kelsy. With Bernie out and Nathan rendered immobile by his ever-malfunctioning truck, Lorne is now the only person to have played every single game this year. Jerry, Scott and the Zarrs took off in the middle of the fourth game, giving us and even ten players to play the last series-and-a-half. Another goaltender-destroying series ensued which saw Laird backstop Oliver, Spike, Stefan and Jared to a 2-1 win over Robert, Kyle, Graeme, Lorne and Forrest. Numerous season highs and some all-time marks were shattered. Robert tallied 19 goals and 17 assists for 36 points, the second-highest mark of all time. 17 assists tied Oliver's all-time session mark set last year at the Super Session, but Lorne broke it with 18, adding 16 goals for 34 points, the fourth-highest mark of all-time. Rob's 19 goals and 36 points lead in 2004; obviously, never have two people got 30 points in the same session. Also having a breakout session was Jared, with 14 goals and six assists. Ollie and Stefan got 18 and 16, respectively. There is definitely a session on Thursday; Monday is still tentatively scheduled with the Bilinskis, Pat and Jerod Warren (!) lined up to play. Be there!

Useless Stats: With no Justin, Lorne now commands a massive 144-83 lead in the season scoring race and leads in all three scoring categories; he is also over 300 shots for the year. Robert vaults in third in goals and points, and Oliver moves into fifth in points and third in assists. The goaltending Saturday helped the shooting percentage of a lot of people. Jared now leads with 31.4, followed by brother Kyle with 30.0 and Robert with 29.1. Laird still maintains a healthy lead over Nathan in goaltending, .825-.815. Robert leads all of the individual per-game stats by a fair margin. Stefan is now second in assists-per-game. Randy and R.J. are the first father-and-son combo in Burton history, and Jerry Currie makes the Curries the second extended family in Burton history. Justin's streak of twelve consecutive session was snapped as was Nathan's streak of five. Bernie now has a streak of 23 consectuvitve sessions (the third longest ever) while Lorne is now up to eight straight. On the all-time front, Laird's seven points moves ahead of Joern into sixth on the all-time list, nine behind Justin; Laird needs two more games to hit the 300 mark, the third to do so. Stefan passes Joe for eighth and is now twelve behind Joern. Robert's massive session vaults him past Simon and Seamus into the top ten in only 66 games played out; he also moves into second in assists-per-game. Lorne is only one assist behind Bernie for second all-time. Graeme moves from 20th to 18th on the all-time scoring list and Jared moves from 25th to 20th.
