One of the lost mythological characters of Burton hockey reemerged from the mist this weekend to play his first sanctioned session. Leeroy hits you up with the goodness.
For weeks there had been whispers and innuendos pointing to the long
awaited return of one of the original founding fathers of Burton Hockey
- a soul so ancient that even some of hockeys most seasoned veterans
have never seen him in action. When week after week nothing ever
materialized, the rumours were largely dismissed as hollow speculation.
Until today.
After a near decade long absence, a ghost from the distant past has
returned to haunt the hockey rinks of Burton. You won't believe the
writing on your screen when you see his name, you'll think you're
dreaming, you'll think someone's playing a joke on you. It will blow
your mind. Prepare to be electrified.
Yes, it's true! On Saturday we witnessed the rise of MAXIMUM WATTAGE, the
fall of Lee, the emergence of Nathan from net, and the return of Laird
to goal (in style) and skates!

Game 1: 5-0 Ollie - Cruden - Mitch Laird
Thanks, Lee! Well, Oliver showed why he is the rock of BUSH on this day, leading the way with 17 points (5G, 12A on 36 shots). Seamus was right behind with 15 points, and the goal leader on the day was Mitch (9G, 5A, 14P), who took third star and is rapidly becoming one of the more intriguing young prospects in Burton. Laird played his first session of the year and showed why he is such a dual threat on the Burton pavement, notching 13 points in four games and then going in net to register a shutout to end the day (no, it doesnt count as a session record, it was only eight shots). Lee took a step backwards with only eight points; hell be sure to have plenty of water and not so much o the other fluids next time.
Useless Stats: Lees ill-advised escapade the night before the session hampered his chase for Stefan for the 2006 scoring title, although he does narrow it somewhat to 117-91. Seamus is now entering the battle, just three points behind Lee. Oliver passes Lorne and Jason to move into fourth, and Mitch enters the top 10. Seamus becomes the third player to hit 50 goals this year and ties Lee for second at 55, 13 behind Stefan. Ollie becomes the first player to hit 50 assists this year, passing Stefan for the season lead. Lee ties Joern for fifth in assists, one behind Jason. Seamus passes 300 shots for the season, as Ollie ties Lorne for fourth. Mitch moves to second in shooting percentage for the year as Lee falls from the top five. Nathan leads Chris in saves by just three, 422-419. Laird is the fifth goalie to record a shutout this season. Oliver, Jason and Seamus are tied for third in three-star points behind Stefan and Lee. Lee hands back the lead in PPG to Jason and the GPG lead to Duncan. Oliver takes the APG lead from Jason. Chris 95 saves this session ties for fourth-highest so far in 2006.
On the all-time front, the battle to reach 1,000 points swings back in Brouses favour as Oliver re-takes the all-time scoring lead from Lorne, 961-953. Seamus moves to within eight points of Bernie for fourth on the all-time list. Laird passes Joern for eighth on the all-time scoring list, and Mitch moves into that top 40. Seamus passes Jastin for fourth in all-time goals. Laird ties Robert for tenth in all-time goals, and needs one for 200. Lee needs three assists for 300. Seamus passes Justin for fourth in assists and is thirteen behind Lee. Laird is two behind Joern for seventh in assists. Laird needs 17 saves for 3,000. Oliver is the first player to reach 550 games. Seamus needs 19 games for 300. Chris needs five games for 200. Nathan is two games behind Graeme for eleventh all-time. Laird becomes the first Burton goaltender to record ten shutouts. Oliver passes Justin for third in three-star points. Seamus is now tied with Justin for fourth. Laird completes the list of players who have now played in all seven seasons of Burton hockey (joining Lorne, Justin, Joern, Stefan, Bernie, Oliver and Lee). Oliver ties Lee for second in all-time 15-pointers with 25. As last week did not see a full session, Seamus consecutive 15-pointer streak goes to four and Olivers to three. Chris moves ahead of Nathan into second in all-time 80-save sessions with 17; he has a record 17 consecutive such sessions (Nathans streak, second all-time, ends at six). Seamus has played 11 consecutive sessions, Lee six, and Chris, Nathan and Ollie five each. On the SDF, Lees off-session drops him to over 20 points behind Jason, and third place behind Stefan. Lorne falls to fifth behind Seamus, and Mitchell makes a huge jump into seventh. Pretty static on the GDF as Nathan spends his fourth consecutive ranking on top. Will Watsy return again? Tune in next week to find out, and be sure to check out the Records and Honours page linked on the front page.
