The usual Saturday night session saw a new goaltender duel in Seamus vs. Justin. A good session all round, high paced, competitive, with plenty of spills and collisions to confirm that.
Series 1: Graeme KJ Bernie (Mitch) Justin vs. Lee Oli (Karl) Seamus
Game 1: 5-3 Team KJ. KJ and Justin were dominant. Game played 2 on 3
without Mitch and Karl. Oliver gets speared and goes down hard. Sucks
it up and continues to play despite broken wrist.
Game 2: 5-2 Team Lee. Despite vomiting from pain and playing one
handed, Oli digs down deeps and propels team to victory. Big game from
Karl, scoring key goals.
Game 3: 5-3 Team Lee. Finally the massive volume of shots from Lee
start finding their way into the net. Despite a brilliant effort from
KJ, and some truly spectacular series of saves from Justin (some of
the finest I've seen, the one on Oli will be remembered) and equally
impressive shot totals, his team goes down in the series.
Series 2: Lee KJ Bernie Justin vs. Karl (Graeme) Mitch Oli Seamus
Game 1: 5-3 Team Lee.
Game 2: 5-2 Team Lee. The Lee/KJ combination proved deadly. Once
they found their chemistry, the game was over. Justin played great
again in net, and solid contributions from Bernie sealed the deal.
Thanks, Lee. Once again, the K.J. - Lee combo was quite potent tonight. K.J. led the way for the second-straight session with 10G, 7A on 43 shots. Lee continued with his amazing shot volumes with 55 shots in the five games and sixteen points. And, even though is missed the second game, Karl picked up his first career three-star points six years after his first session with 7G, 2A. In goal, Justin is making a case for goalie of the year with a scintillating .850. Seamus was his usual consistent self at .813.
Useless Stats: Oliver is just one point behind Seamus for second in season scoring. Bernie ties Lorne for fifth in points. Graeme ties Jason for seventh. Lee becomes the first player to reach 100 goals this year. Oliver is five goals behind Lorne for fourth. Oliver needs 11 assists for 100. Bernie is one assist behind Stefan for fourth. Lee passes 500 shots on the year. Oliver passes 300 shots and is third behind Seamus. Mitch and Bernie pass Lorne for fifth and sixth in shots. K.J. moves into fifth in shooting percentage. Justin increases his league-leading save percentage to a whopping .841 on the year. Seamus moves to second at .820 for the season. Justin is four saves behind Carlos for fifth in saves. K.J. moves to sixth in three-star points and fifth in PPG. Oliver falls to third in APG while Lee moves up to fourth. Seamus moves to second in saves-per-game. Justin's .850 is the fourth-best outing in net so far this year. On the SDF, K.J.'s dominating performances in the last two sessions have moved him to the top of the pole ahead of Lee and Stefan. Seamus falls to sixth as his tour of duty in net continues. Nathan leads to GDF for a tenth straight session as Justin and Seamus continue to move up the chart.
On the all-time front: Bernie is 15 points behind Seamus for fourth in all-time points. Karl needs two points for 100. Oliver and Lee are both clear of 400 goals, and Lee had passed Oliver for second all-time there. Karl moves into the top 20 in goals. Bernie needs four assists for 400. Lee is ten assists behind Lorne for third all-time. K.J. moves to fourth in shooting percentage and passes 900 shots. Justin is nine saves behind Lyle for fifth all-time and one game goaltended behind Lyle for fifth there. Justin is two games played behind Joern for fifth all-time. Lee needs ten three-star points to reach 400. Lee moves to fifth all-time in shots-per-game. K.J. ties Robert for fifth in 10-goal sessions and seventh in 15-pointers. Seamus and Justin each records their sixth career 80-save sessions. Bernie has now played 18 straight sessions, while Lee is at 12 and Oliver 11. Chris' streak ends at ten; this is the first BUSH session he has not competed in 2006. Lee and Oliver have played all 61 games in BUSH. Between BUSH and VRH, Bernie has played 58. Will Oliver be able to play through his broke wrist? Come back next time and find out. And check out the Records and Honours page while you're at it.
From Lee the next morning:
I need to issue a retraction. I was quite possibly fucked up when I wrote that. Ollie got speared hard by his own stick jamming into the mesh and went down hard, wind knocked out of him. His wrist was just really sore, it took him down to about 70%. Nothing broken. No vomit. My apologies for my lack of professionalism and embellishment.
