Terryn stepped up and organized a session. The first day in months the temperature has been perfect for hockey. Making the trip to Burton with only seven people I dropped in on Lyle, (whose dial up internet makes him constantly inaccessible by phone) who agreed to come play.
First game without Lyle was played 2 on 3 with Terryn in net. A completely lopsided affair dominated from the start by Team Kyle 5-1.
With Lyle suited up it was decided to keep the teams the same as Terryn went to skates and Lyle to goal. This produced one of the better series of the year really, a dead even match with outstanding goaltending on both ends.
Team Kyle: 5-4
Team Lee: 5-4
Team Kyle:5-4
Next series: Lee - Kyle - Nathan - Lyle vs. Joe - Brad - Nathan - Shem
Team Kyle: 5-3
For the final game I was forced to bow out due to my knee, and Joe had wheel issues, so it was played 2 on 2; Terryn - Brad - Shem vs. Kyle - Nathan – Lyle. Terryn and Brad were too much, with both players pointing out despite another commendable effort from Lyle. Great session all round, with both goalies in top form and perhaps one of the best I've ever seen from Lyle.
Thanks, Lee (and thanks to Terryn for getting BUSH going again)! A terrific, high scoring six-gamer from the BUSH ensured great stats all around in a very even-handed session. Kyle’s ridiculous 80 shots today helped to a share of first place today with 13G-6A. He shares the honour with a career session from Brad, who pumped out 11A to go with 8G for his first 15-pointer ever. Right behind them was Terryn. Despite playing in goal the first game, he just missed out on first star with 6G-12A. Joe picked up a 15-pointer his first time out, and Lee was over 15 as well. Nathan’s 11P is a career best on skates for him as well. In goal, Lyle and Shem battled all session and were at their peak. Lyle, despite missing the first game, led the way with 114 saves and .844, just ahead of Shem at 104 and .832. Once again, the BUSH goalies are getting it done in 2009.
Here are the game scores:

Season Stats: Kyle’s post-elbow-injury tear of late has him very close to Ben in second place, 393-382. Lee is on another planet at 529. Terryn passes Tony and Bernie for 13th in points. Kyle passes 1,000 shots on goal and is 33 behind Ben for second. Shem just nudges ahead of Nathan into fifth in goaltending. Lyle passes Lorne for fourth in season saves and is 26 behind Joern for third. Kyle passes Bron and Mitch for eighth in games played. Lyle becomes the fifth goalie this year to goaltend 50 games. Kyle is ten three-star points behind Ben for second. Shem ties Bron for the lead in goalie star points while Lyle leapfrog Justin and Lorne to move to third. Kyle passes Ben for second in total star points while Shem ties Bron and K.J. for fifth. Kyle’s 80 shots rank sixth-highest this year; an amazing accomplishment for just six games.
On the All-Time Front: Lee becomes the second player in history to record 1,500 points; he is 93 behind Oliver for the all-time lead. Terryn moves from 28th to 24th. Lee gets back to within 28 goals of Lorne for the all-time lead, 843-815. Kyle becomes the ninth player to score 300 goals. Lee needs 15 assists for 700. Nathan needs 16 assists for 100. Lee needs 56 shots on goal to become the first player to record 4,000. Kyle is 42 shots behind Joern for ninth all-time. Shem passes Seamus for third all-time in goaltending. Lyle needs 28 saves for 2,000. Shem passes Seamus for ninth in saves. Lee passes Joern for fourth in all-time games played. Nathan is two games behind Chris Jackins for twelfth. Shem is three games goaltended behind Seamus for ninth. Lyle leaps past Seamus into sixth in all-time goalie star points; Kyle moves to eleventh in total star points. Kyle breaks through the 8.00 shots-per-game barrier and is seriously threatening to take the all-time lead from Dallas next time he plays. Kyle becomes the eighth player with 20 15-pointers; he has six in a row. Brad and Joe record their first 15-pointers. Kyle has three ten-goal sessions in a row. Brad records his first career ten-assister. Shem has seven 80-savers in a row, the third-longest streak ever. Lyle has three in a row. Lyle enters the top five in 90-savers with eleven. Shem sets a new Burton record with six in a row; Lyle has three in a row. Both are tied for fourth in 100-savers with seven; Shem has back-to-back 100-savers. Lee has played 25 consecutive sessions, which ties his 2005-06 streak as the fourth-longest in Burton history. Kyle’s streak goes to six; troy’s ends at five. Kyle’s 382 points this year is the third-highest season total ever, as are his 224 goals. He also becomes the third player to record 1,000 shots in a season (the fourth time it’s been done). Shem’s 81 games goaltended this year ranks second all-time in a single season. Shem’s 130 goalie star points ties with Bron’s mark (also from 2009) for most in a single year. Kyle’s 190 total star points rank fifth-best in a single year.
SDF/GDF: With no VRH session this week, this BUSH session is added to the current ranking, altering it slightly with Lee moving ahead of Ben into seventh, Terryn and Brad jumping to 12th and 13th, and 42 players instead of 40. A big change on the GDF, however, as Lyle’s amazing session rockets him back to first place. It’s so close on top that just one game from Terryn dropped him from third to sixth.
A Thanksgiving visit from Lee Orr and your humble statistician is in the works. Until next time, don’t forget to check out the Records and Honours page in the Links section for the plethora of statistical goodies inside.
