This session began with a bit of scare, with everyone having arrived and no Alex in sight, we began to get a little worried. Then Stefan received a phone call from Al saying he had only just seen the confirmation e-mail and was currently busy with something else. Nevertheless, to our great relief the younger Elischer would eventually show up and the game was on!

If this session was characterized by anything it would have to be spills crashes and injuries, though luckily none of them (very) serious. First Rob sprained a couple of fingers, then J-Bo fell awkwardly hurting his wrist, then Stefan had a massive high speed spill tearing up the side of his hand, J-Bo got an inadvertent stick to the knee drawing blood, and finally in the last game Bernie fell on an innocent looking play scraping up the whole side of his lower leg.

Two best-of-3 series were played until the 6th game which would see one of the most evenly matched teams of the day, and an extremely long drawn out battle. After this game J-Bo, Joern and Sam all had to leave. So one final 2-on-2 game (one team had a sub) was played. Normally 2-on-2 games are quick high scoring affairs, yet this was anything but. After Rob & Ollie took a 4-1 lead, the game was absolutely taken over by the goalies; both teams had high quality chance after high quality chance but were absolutely stymied by the two tenders. The game would stay at this score for a good half hour until Rob finally put it away. When all was said and done Al had faced 29 shots (though only letting one goal in) and Dom had faced a massive 48 shots.

Thanks, Bern. A superlative goaltending duel that lasted all day came down literally to the last goal as Alex just barely edged out Dom .856-.855 to take the day. For the second week in a row the save totals were huge, this time 167-142 in favour of Alex. Despite outshooting Stefan 84-53, Rob finished four points behind the Kloppster, who finished on 13G-9A to take first star ahead of Rob at 10G-8A. Oliver wasn’t far behind at 7G-10A in third.

Here are the game scores:
Stefan Rob Eric Bernie Dom def. Jordan Joern Gordon Oliver Alex 5-3 5-3
Jordan Joern Oliver Alex def. Stefan Rob Eric Bernie Dom 5-2
Stefan Oliver Eric Sam Dom def. Rob Bernie Jordan Joern Alex 5-4 5-0
Stefan Oliver Bernie Eric Dom def. Jordan Rob Sam Joern Alex 5-4
Oliver Rob Alex def. Stefan Eric Bernie Dom 5-1

Season Stats: Oliver is just narrowly behind Pat for third, 404-392. With Nathan done for the year pretty much, Stefan retakes fifth and actually isn’t very far behind Pat and Ollie at 381. Rob passes Bernie to enter the top ten at 243, just a point behind Sam for eighth. Stefan needs two goals for 200; Oliver is just two goals behind Sam for fifth, 148-146. Bernie and Jordan both need two goals for 100; Rob needs seven. Jordan and Rob pass Pat for seventh and eighth in assists; Sam ties Justin for twelfth and needs four for tenth. Stefan becomes the third person this year with 1,000 shots on goal; Rob rockets into the top ten. Jordan falls behind K.J. to sixth in shooting percentage. Alex passes Nathan for seventh in save percentage; Dom passes Bron for ninth. Bernie and Oliver both pass the 200-games-played mark with Dom just one away; Stefan passes Nathan for seventh; Alex passes 150 games. Dom takes the lead in goalie star points from Seamus, 205-200, with Alex at 190. Dom also ties Pat for fourth in total star points. Alex’s 167 saves is the fourth-highest mark of the year.

On the All-Time Front: Stefan is just three points behind Lorne for third place on the all-time scoring chart; he also needs just twelve for 1,500. Rob passes Ryan for 18th and is nine behind Troy for 17th. Sam also just gets around Ryan for 19th; Jordan is seven behind Ryan for 20th. Stefan and Kyle keep trading third in all-time goals back-and-forth; Stefan now leads again 809-804 with Oliver at 787. Stefan needs 21 assists for 700. Oliver becomes the fourth player to take 4,000 shots on goal. Dom is 40 saves behind Chris for fourth all-time and 155 behind Bron for third. Rob passes Ryan for 19th in games played; Sam needs four for 200. Dom now sits alone in third in games goaltended; he’s only 22 games away from Laird’s record of 282. Dom passes Shem for sixth in all-time goalie star points. Sam’s 15-pointer streak ends at five and Jordan at four; Rob’s streak increases to four. Stefan passes Lorne for third in 20-pointers with 29. Sam’s 20-pointer streak ends at three. Sam’s streak of ten-goal sessions ends at four. Oliver becomes the first player with 50 ten-assist sessions (two in a row); Jordan posts his tenth. As the months advance, Dom is slowly beginning to gobble up the Burton goaltending volume records that will probably all be his by the time spring comes around. Dom has three straight .820s and ten all-time (seventh overall); he also has back-to-back .850s. Dom also passed Seamus for fourth on the 80-savers list with 23, and has six in a row to Alex’s five. Dom ties Bron and Nathan for most 90-savers with 20; Alex is at 17. Alex has five 90-savers in a row; Dom two. Dom is one 100-saver behind Nathan for the all-time lead with 17; again, Alex has five in a row and Dom two. Dom also ties Bron for the lead in 110-savers with 13; Alex has eleven. Alex has five in a row and is one behind Seamus’ record 110-saver streak of six set this spring; Dom has two. Alex is now third in 120-savers with eight. Dom becomes the first player with ten 130-savers. Both Dom and Alex can become the first goalie to post three 130s in a row next time out. Bernie plays his 29th consecutive session; Oliver his eleventh. Bernie’s 20 games played this season ranks fifth-most in a single year ever. By taking the lead in goalie star points on the season from Seamus, Dom also sets a new single-season record for goalie star points at 205; Alex is third at 190.

SDF/GDF: Another day, another lead for Pat; his twelfth in a row (fifth-longest streak ever). Stefan was the big winner today, shooting up five spots to eighth just ahead of Rob. On the GDF, Alex’s huge session was just short of getting him the top spot, as Seamus barely hangs on, .829-.827. Seamus has now tied Justin for the most rankings led all-time with 29, but whether or not he can hang on another week is up to Alex next time. Dom also gets back over .800 for the first time since August 2009 and may figure into this battle within a session or two.

Check back next weekend for more VRH action. Until next time, check out the Records and Honours pages in the Links section.

The wound on my leg still stings like a m*fucker two days later.

Jordo, a couple times that session I was like, "Medic! Where the fuck is Jordo when we need him?!".

LOL@J-Bo. IJS.

I think these wounds may have been a little above your pay grade Jordo.

Tell me about it Jordan. My elbow and stomach absolutely sting, especially when in the shower. I have to say I haven't play a session that intense, and so full of fight since the Decca Session.

I have never been so marked up after a session. I could hardly hold my stick at the end of the day. I've got some massive bruises in areas I'm even disgusted to look at. Having said that, it was a ton of fun with the pace and intensity that high throughout the day.
