Once again numbers were an issue today, but luckily Eric managed to round up a second goalie (Scotty Edison) and with a couple of late confirmations we had just enough to play. On the downside though, having no subs made this a pretty grueling session (for some more so than others). Also, much like the last couple of sessions, a storm system would begin to move in during the day, but would hold its moisture at bay until the evening.
The first series featured Andrew-Marcus-Bernie-Dom(G) against J-Bo-Eric-Ollie-Scott(G). This one was pretty close, and would lead to a third game which was taken by Team Scott 5-3.
The next series (produced by sticks) featured the same teams with Eric switched with Marcus. Surprisingly Andrew-Eric-Bernie-Dom(G) not only managed to hold their own but won the series in a couple of blow-out games (5-0, 5-1). Eric's defensive-minded presence was certainly a factor, but Scott also struggled a little in this one with a few shots from further out catching him off guard. Dom also stepped it up, not necessarily making a huge number of saves but stopping some very high quality chances.
In the final game Scotty really found his groove allowing only 3 goals on 25 shots, and leading his team (Andrew-J-Bo-Ollie) to an eventual 5-3 win, in a game that was a real grindfest lasting almost an hour. At this point, J-bo had to leave, and the session was called.
Another thing to note: with the lower numbers today, points-per-game stats should finally be a little more reflective of the players' true calibre.

Danke, Bernhart! Both sessions today came down to the last game; in this case, Andrew and Eric were tied at 18 points heading into Game 6. Andrew scored four goals in the final game to take the day 22-19 over Eric. Jordan joined in on the star points in third with 16. Four of Oliver’s seven points today came in the final game. Not a pleasant day for the goalies. Dom was .744 to Scotty’s .729, but Dom did pick up a valuable shutout in Game 4.
Here are the game scores:
Jordan Eric Oliver Scott def. Andrew Marcus Bernie Dom 5-2 4-5 5-3
Eric Bernie Andrew Dom def. Marcus Jordan Oliver Scott 5-0 5-1
Andrew Jordan Oliver Scott def. Marcus Eric Bernie Dom 5-3
A high-scoring weekend in both VRH and BUSH makes for some interesting stats. Here is the weekend stats summary:
Season Stats: The small session with big numbers today for Andrew Smart helps him extend his season scoring lead even further and absolutely no one is near him. He sits at 192 while you have to drop down to 115 to find second-place Marcus. The race for second remains crowded; Oliver is just one point behind Marcus. Injured Stefan drops to fourth this week. Lee Orr makes the first dent in the top ten for BUSH with his big session today, moving up to seventh ahead of Bernie, Barlow and Eric. Mitch Detta moves up into the top dozen today as well on the heels of his career-best performance. Lee jumps into fourth in goals, and Mitch is all the way to seventh. Smart becomes the first player this season to hit 100 assists; this is the first time in history that a scoring leader has hit 100 assists before hitting 100 goals, and he has a commanding 33-assist lead on second-place Oliver. Barlow and Marcus jump into the top five in assists with 50 each. Oliver and Lee moves up to fifth and seventh in shots, and Mitch is now also in the top ten. Barlow takes a huge chunk out of Kyle Grenier’s shooting percentage lead, with Lee, Marcus and Mitch rounding out the top five. Joe Leonard moves into third in save percentage behind Alex Elischer and Dom Voser (neither Jesse Cann nor Ryan Bateman have played enough goal to be eligible, although Ryan is really close and would be first otherwise). Dom needs 50 saves for 1,000 on the year. Joe moves into third in saves at 133. Dom and the Koth-Kappi have played all ten VRH session and Andrew has only missed one. Only Lee and Mitch have played in all three BUSH sessions. Dom joins Ryan as the only goalies with multiple shutouts this year. Smart has a commanding 110-45 lead in three-star points over Rob Hajdu; Lee Orr jumps up to fifth at 30 with Eric five points behind. Smart’s total star points lead over second place Alex is 110-80. Of everyone with a minimum of 35 points, Kyle is the PPG leader at 3.17. Lee holds second over Andrew by the slimmest of margins, 2.867-2.866. Ryan moves up to fourth at 2.75, and Marcus just edges out Brad Gibson for fifth. Lee holds a solid lead in GPG over Kyle, 1.77-1.44. It’s an interesting battles for second in APG, as Kyle leads Ryan 1.72-1.67. Smart passes Marcus for third in shots-per-game with Mitch moving up to fifth. Joe sits third in saves-per-game behind Alex and Dom. Lee’s 32 points today tie for the second-best session of the year, with Mitch’s 29 points ranking fifth. Lee’s 23 goals and Mitchell’s 18 goals ranks one-two on the season, as do their 81 and 80 shots on goal, respectively.

Andrew Smart becomes the 23rd player to score 200 assists. Oliver trails Stefan Klopp by 18 in the race for second in shots on goal. Kyle plummets from the top five in goaltending, bringing Shem Hanna back into the top five. Joe Leonard passes K.J. O’Connor for 13th in saves. Bernie needs three games for 1,200; Barlow needs two for 300. Dom moves into the top five in shutouts with twelve; Joe enters the top ten in points scored from goal. Kyle passes Stefan for third in three-star points; Smart is five behind Ben de Wit for eleventh. Barlow passes Nathan Robson and Rob Hajdu to move into 13th all-time; he needs 22 points for 600. Mitch Detta is seven points behind Nathan for 15th. Eric enters the top 25. Oliver trails Lorne Bilinski for second in goals, 900-898. Kyle pushes his legendary 15-pointer streak to 40 straight sessions. He also passes Stefan Klopp for third all-time with 54. Mitch enters the top ten with 19. Andrew Smart and Lee Orr have three in a row; Andrew Likness pots his first. Kyle has four 20-pointers in a row; Lee and Andrew Smart have three; Andrew Likness and Ryan Bateman post their first 20-pointers. Mitch has his first 25-pointer. Kyle ties Lorne for second in ten-goal sessions with 46 including four in a row (Lee Orr leads with 69 and has three in a row); Mitch Detta ties Sam Lam for ninth with 13, and Andrew Likness grabs his first. Andrew Smart also has thre ten-goal sessions in a row. Lee trails Pat Elischer for third in 15-goal sessions, 18-17. Kyle’s 15-goal streak ends at three. Lee becomes the third player with four 20-goal sessions (Pat 11, Kyle eight). Andrew Smart has three ten-assisters in a row. Andrew Likness and Garrit Krbyla record their first ten-assisters; Ryan and Mitch their second. Two stints in net, two .810-plus sessions for Ryan. Dom’s 80-saver streak ends at five; in fact, the only player above 80 saves all weekend out of six goalie was Joe Leonard with a massive 133 (the second time Joe has crossed the 130-save mark). Lee plays his 33rd consecutive session; Oliver his 32nd; Dominik his 23rd; Bernie his eleventh; Andrew Smart his ninth. In case you missed it, Garrit’s 12 assists in BUSH today is a new all-time rookie session record.
SDF/GDF: Another SDF led by Andrew Smart this week (nine in a row), but thngs are changing behind him. Lee moves up to third, and Kyle Grenier, not even on full session value yet, skyrockets to fifth. One more session, and he should be battling with smart for the lead. Marcus drops six spots from third to ninth, and Mitch enters the top ten. Also one to watch once he reaches the session minimum is Ryan, already in the top fifteen with barely a session of skating under his belt. A shocking turn of events over on the GDF, as Alex has been deposed by the upstart Ryan. Dom drops to third; Joe Leonard re-debuts seventh.
BUSH already has two session lined up this week. Crazy. Until next time, check out the Records and Honours pages in the Links section.
