Today was the session that almost never happened. We were lucky to get enough people at all with only 8 confirming, but with the beautiful weather hockey had to be attempted. ‘Attempted’ would be a very fitting word actually. By the noon start time only Eric and Sam had shown up, and slowly but somewhat unsurely people started filing in! Eventually we had enough for some 2-2 action! Game 1 saw Marcus, Jordo and Sam take on Tony Eric and Dom. Great saves were made at both ends but in the end breakaways ended the game quite quickly.

Game 2 brought the newest VRH rookie into the fold! Rishad “Evans” Daroo would join Team Marcus and despite having the sub and “fresh” legs Team Tony won Game 2. We decided to make trades throughout the day but no real fair teams could be made, although with Marcus’s skill and with Dom doing his best brick wall impersonation that wasn’t really very surprising. But just as our energy was failing us, a white knight dressed in orange showed up to Ambleside. The one and only Andy Smarty Pants had finally made it to hockey after a stressful night and morning. This finally gave us enough 3-3 but Dom refused to let in any goals while Sam seemed to move out of the way of most shots.

On a side note today also marked the first session ever that had no players originating from the Arrow Lakes area. Oh, how Burton Hockey has grown…

Thanks, Sam! It’s not every day VRH gets to play a largely 2-on-2 session, letting the top players put up some big numbers in the process; three of VRH’s best players hit the 3.25 PPG mark today and each set career highs in the process. Tony pointed out half the games and had eight assists in the last series to finish with 16G-17A; the first ever 30-pointer by a Hajdu. Marcus had three point-outs of his own to finish at an even-handed 14G-14A, and Eric was not far behind Marcus with 15G-11A. In goal, it was a one man show as Dominik picked up another shutout and finished at .857 on 102 saves; were it not for going 4-for-8 in Game 6, he’d have been in the .880s. Sam’s run of triple-digit save sessions ended here with .708 on 97 saves.
