The Arena crew needed twelve players tonight to keep the rental agreement on the rink going, but, alas, only ten players showed up. As such, this would be it for now in the Arena, but if the gang was going to out, they were going to do it in style. The freshly-cleaned rink and the wide-open 3-on-3-with-subs action in traditional Burton style made for one of the most fun sessions all year. Alongside the returning leader of the Arena League, Zac Wethal, would be the return of Carter Stenseth to net. As well, Kodi Bowman would make his debut tonight; despite being wary of his skating ability on concrete, he wound up contributing more than nicely on the scoresheet.

Blue Team:
1. Dugan McInnes (goal)
2. Nathyn McInnes
6. Luke Krbyla
8. Ben Gardner
10. Zac Wethal

White Team:
1. Carter Stenseth (goal)
8. Tyson Cann
10. Kellan Nishida
15. Kodi Bowman
17. Ryan Bateman

Zac’s goal for the last session of the year was to pass Kyle Grenier in the Arena scoring race, and it looked as though he'd make good on that promise early with a natural hat trick to start Game 1. The tide quickly turned, however, with four consecutive goals from White to completely change the game. For both teams in Game 1, the points were spread around fairly evenly, but the Kellan-Tyson-Ryan line would get the job done for a 5-4 win; Blue falling apart at the end leading to Zac making some playful jabs at Luke followed by an attempted trade for Kodi (White rejected it).

Game 2 saw Carter set up a stonewall, repeatedly turning away Blue’s advances (especially Nate). Dugan was also solid in the White crease, but Blue would double White’s shot total here. Backed by the four assists of Tyson, Kellan would also pick up four points here en route to a 5-0 shutout. Kodi would also score his first career goal in this game.

Taking matters into his own hands for Game 3, Zac successfully converted his frustration into scoring, pointing out in Game 3 with 3G-2A as Blue would grab their only win of the day. Ben and Luke would also score for Blue with Nathyn still snakebit. Dugan played his best hockey of the night here, making some incredible saves on Kellan and Ryan. The win for Blue would send the series to Game 4, where Nathyn finally sent one home past Carter on his 16th and final shot of the day. It would not be enough, however, as the Kellan-Ryan duo led White to a 5-2 victory, including a hilarious goal where Zac threw his glove at Ryan on a breakaway and nailed him in the back of the head as he scored. Kodi would notch two goals here as well.

It’s been a fantastic run for the Arena League in 2012. In just under three months, 46 different players took to the rink in some of the largest sessions in history, including an incredible 26-player session back on 10 June. A very big thanks go out to Zac Wethal for bringing roller hockey to the Arena and introducing a new generation of Nakuspians to roller hockey. After the last game, there was a decent amount of talk around the dressing room about a return to Burton for some rejuvenated BUSH action sooner rather than later. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
