Even with the leading scorer off for Vancouver, things are looking as bright as ever for Burton hockey with a new race for the scoring championship, new day for play (Monday), and three new additions to the roster with Dallas Sinclair, Kyle Grenier and Anthony Cowan bringing speed and dexterity to the McCormack rink. Bitch Awards? Maybe Rob and Jared playing soccer instead of hockey would suffice for that designation. The first game saw Chris and Nathan stoning people left and right until a stiff blast to the jockless Jackins sent him to the ground, forcing Laird to go in net. After letting in the first goal, Laird went on an amazing run that saw him single-handedly extend the length of 1 game to almost an hour. By the time the series was over, Dallas, Justin, Bernie, Pat and Laird has won 2-0 and Laird posted the amazing stat of 47-51, .922, the highest save percentage of all-time for a single session. Dallas, Kyle and Anthony dominated the first session but it was the Dallas/Pat combo that did all of the scoring. Kyle and Anthor racked up huge shot totals and continued that into the second series. Chris returned to back up Ollie, Anthony, Pat and Justin in a competitive best-of-five series. Justin got back into the session this series and Graeme emerged as a playmaker couple with Dallas. Nathan got back into the groove as well, making huge glove saves time after time. Kyle, Graeme, Bernie, laird, Dallas and Nathan won 3-1 with the last two games going to OT. Dallas took the day 10-8-18-42 and should continue to post big numbers in sessions to come. Kyle and Pat tied at 14 points, though their stats couldn't have been more different. Pat, as usual, played an even game of 6-81-14-27, and continues to be one of the more underrated players in Burton. Kyle, on the other hand, posted 62 shots in just six games on his way to 11-3-14. Justin and Anthony were right behind with 13 points; one ignominious statistic to come from this is Anthony's shooting percentage of 7.7%; you can look at the stats yourself and see where that ranks all-time. The goalies were even all day with Nathan beating Chris .809-.796.
Useless Stats: With Lorne gone for the summer, the door is open for Justin to take his first scoring title. Monday's session saw him close to within 36 points; he also needs four goals for 100 on the year. Pat moves into a tie with K.J. for sixth in points. Oliver passes Robert for fourth in assists. Justin reaches 400 shots for the year and is 39 behind Lorne. Laird's save percentage jumps up to .835, just seven points behind K.J. for the season lead. Chris passes Laird for second in games goaltended. Kyle debuts in second on the goals-per-game list; Dallas in fifth. Kyle easily leads in shots-per-game with Anthony in second and Dallas in fifth. Kyle's 62 shots is tied for fifth-highest this year, an amazing feat considering only six games were played. As for Laird, what can you say? .922, the greatest single-session save percentage of all time (no wonder he happily left the net when Chris got better!). Laird has the season's top three marks in that category. On the all-time front, Oliver becomes the second player to break 700 career points and Bernie the third to break 500. Laird needs 12 points to catch Lee for fifth in points. Ollie needs nine goals for 300. Bernie reaches 200 goals and needs just one assist for 300. Justin passes Joern for fifth in assists and becomes the third player to hit the 1000-shot mark. Patrick's 14 points move him from 22nd to 18th all-time. Graeme passes Dustin M. for 16th all-time in points and needs three for 100 points and another four to catch Dylan. Nathan becomes the 13th player to play 100 games. Laird falls to third in assists-per-game behind Dustin M. Nathan is barely ahead of Seamus all-time in goaltending, .819-.818, but passes Joern for second on the all-time saves list and Lyle for third in games goaltended while Chris becomes the fifth goalie to record 800 saves. Laird gets his all-time percentage over .800 for the first time. Dallas recorded the fifth-highest scoring session by a rookie all-time and Kyle the fifth-highest rookie goal total of all-time. Anthony ties the all-time rookie assist record with nine; Dallas was right behind with eight. Kyle's 62 shots gives him the third-highest rookie total of all-time; Anthony's 52 is tied for fourth. Nathan becomes just the second goaltender to register 80 saves in a session ten times. He is now tied with Laird for most 90-save sessions with nine and is the only goalie with nine 100-save sessions. Justin's streak of six straight 15-point sessions is snapped. Bernie's consecutive session streak increases to 27; the closest active streak is Nathan with five.
Burton Cup: The gap closes a bit between Lords and Republic of Ireland thanks to Pat and the second team of Falcons debut in eighth place.
