Saturday was a glorious sunshine filled day that was perfect for an all-day massive session. Unfortunately the Master Bladers had a game on Saturday, and most people couldn’t make it, so we played Sunday. Sunday was a cold and drizzly, yet typical, March Vancouver day. The wetness was no deterrent for hockey however (at least not for most), and a decent 6-game session was played.

Due to the wetness of the court the speed of the game was greatly reduced, as everyone tried not to injure themselves or others. Despite the cautiousness most everyone had at least one tumble, and by the end of the game it looked like we had just rolled around in puddles for the past few hours.

The session saw the return of Dom's brother Darrel, as well as Griff. Stats-keeping was done by the subs today due to the drizzle, which will likely account for a very low shot totals as I am not sure everyone was 100% up to speed on taking the stats. Speaking of shots Darrel was blasting shots from everywhere, not to mention bringing a fierce forecheck. Griff played a solid game, showing off his passing abilities.

The last two games of day featured massive comebacks from Team Dom. In the last game Bernie showed his sniper abilities netting the final 3 goals of the game.

It was fun to get back out there and play some hockey after the Olympics despite the somewhat variable weather. Hopefully there will be drier sessions to come in the following weeks.

Notably absent from the day was Joern and Lorne, who have decided to retire from Burton Hockey and pursue careers in horse riding commentary, and Oliver who was feeling too sick to play, thus ending his ridiculous ironman streak.

Thanks, Stef! A good day to be a Klopp, indeed. Stefan flourished today with 8G-12A on 34 shots to lead with 20 points. Ryan took second star with 6G-11A, and Darrel has his best session ever, scoring 8G on 44 shots and adding 7A for a 15-pointer in his third-career session. Sam led the day in goals with nine. And just look at that sniping percentage from Bernie! Jordan Downey would like you to know that he led the day in blocked shots with six, tied with Jordan Barlow. In goal, Dom led the day at .767, winning five of six games to Bron’s .748 and one win.

Here are the game scores:
Barlow Stefan Darrel Ryan Dom def. Sam Griff Bernie Bron Downey (3-5 5-1 5-3; no Downey in Game 1)
Sam Ryan Bernie Barlow Dom def. Stefan Downey Darrel Griff Bron 5-4 5-4 5-3

As for those shot-blocking stats:
Jordan Barlow 6
Jordan Downey 6
Griff Jones 5
Stefan Klopp 4
Bernie Koth-Kappus 3
Sam Lam 2
Darrel Voser 1

Season Stats: Stefan goes over 100 points for the fifth time in his career. He’s the seventh to do it this season, and he now lies sixth in points sandwiched between Nathan and Troy. Bernie passes Noel for twelfth. Stefan is four goals behind Seamus for fourth; Sam jumps to eleventh there. Stefan moves from eleventh to seventh in assists. Ryan enters the top twenty. Stefan needs three shots on goal for 300. Barlow falls below K.J. to third in shooting percentage. Once Ryan becomes eligible 16 shots from now, he should be second. Bron ties Alan for fifth in saves. Dom is the only player left in either league who has played all of his league’s games. Bernie moves to sixth in games played and Stefan enters the top ten. Bron is seventh in games goaltended. Stefan passes Troy for fifth in three-star points. Dom takes the lead in goalie star points from Shem; he remains five points behind Shem for fifth in total star points. Bron closes in on Kyle for second in saves-per-game.

On the All-Time Front: Bernie needs 22 points for 1,100. Ryan goes over 300 points for his career and passes Joe Chwachka for 19th all-time; he is eight behind Nathan Robson. Barlow passes Rob Hajdu to enter the top 25 all-time. Stefan needs four goals to tie Oliver for third and 14 assists to tie Lorne for fifth. Barlow becomes the 23rd player with 100 assists. Stefan is 18 shots on goal behind Lorne for third. Sam becomes the 24th player with 500 shots on goal. Barlow’s shooting percentage falls below 30.00% for the first time and he barely holds onto first-all-time ahead of Robert Rogers. Dom passes Lorne to enter the top ten in saves all-time. Stefan is six games played behind Justin for seventh all-time. Barlow plays his 100th and enters the top 30. Bron is eight games goaltended behind Nathan for third. Dom passes Seamus for tenth and is three behind Lorne for ninth. Bron passes Justin for second in goalie star points. Bernie joins Stefan and Lorne as the third player to score 500 points in VRH (Oliver needs 22, Pat 36). Ryan is four points behind Joern for sixth in all-time VRH points. Stefan passes Kyle for fifth in 15-pointers with 37. Darrel records his first career 15-pointer. Stefan records his 25th 20-pointer and is two behind Lorne for second; he has two in a row. Stefan ties Seamus for third in ten-assisters with 18; Ryan has his second. Stefan has back-to-back ten-assisters. Bron is one session behind Nathan for second in 80-savers with 24;Dom’s 80-saver streak ends at five. Dom’s streak of 90-saves and above (150-plus, to be exact) end at two. And, as Stefan mentioned above, the legendary three-year long consecutive session streak of Oliver Koth-Kappus ends at 47. That’s 350 games. With major streaks from Oliver, Nathan, and Seamus all ending in the past eight days, the new longest active consecutive session streak in Burton belongs to Dom at 15, dating back to August. Bernie has a streak of six, playing all sessions this season but for the first.

SDF/GDF: Today’s VRH session is added to Friday’s BUSH session to produce the final ranking. This serves to bring Stefan up from eighth to sixth, Sam to eighth from 19th, and ryan to 12th from 28th. If Pat doesn't play the next session, top spot will almost certainly go to Kyle or Lee. Almost nothing changes on the GDF.

Will we see weekday hockey from BUSH? Until next time, check out the Records and Honours pages in the Links section.

Seamus was having the same issue earlier this year. He rode his Ovechkin blade probably 6 sessions past its due point and was shooting about 13% to start the year.

Jord: ya forgot that line: Water Polo, hahahaha, behind the nets it definitely was.

Rhino was ripping it up big-time that session... just like Gaborik.

Barlow, your stick had probably the thinnest blade I've ever seen anyone have. I was at first baffled that you were missing some easy passes (very uncharacteristic of you) and then I saw your stick blade...

That pink ball was pretty nice actually; I think though once it starts to warm up a bit the red ones will fine. I think at this point we should try to get our hands on any Z-bounce balls we can, considering we have like 1 or 2 left between all of us now...

Hmm, based on my shot percentage I think its time to buy a new stick as my current one resembles a sickle. I could easily raze six hectares of wheat with it. Also there is a ball in the back of my truck incase someone is missing one. It is not pink.
Sam Lam wrote on March 10, 2010 @ 00:00:46 PST
Who's pink ball was that? And where did you find it?
It was the nicest one I think we've ever used! :P

No, Ryno, not the Gaborik sweater! It's cursed! Who knows what freak injury will befall you?

Jord to Bernie, "Fuck. It really does feel like Water Polo out there"
BK wrote on March 09, 2010 @ 17:19:32 PST
Also to note: the SV% for the goalies doesn't do them justice this session; aside from shots being missed as Stefan mentioned, it was pretty wide open and they were both facing odd man rush after odd man rush making, for the most part, spectacular save after spectacular save.

I totally forgot about Jordie and the wrong handed stick! Also of note, the stick he used was featured in the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies! I kept on trying to feed him the puck on the point to see if he could get a blast off.

That game didn't help out my cold though! X(

Is that a second Voser I see?

Who's up for a match on Sunday?
BK wrote on March 09, 2010 @ 03:16:58 PST
Also of note: J-Downs played the entire last game with a wrong handed stick (he shoots left but played with a righty) and still managed to tally on the score sheet.
