With the initial estimate of a fairly large session we decided to give Queen E another crack, but we would soon find out that this was indeed a grave mistake. As we arrived, foot hockey players had already taken the small rink, but the large rink was available so we congregated there. As two players had cancelled, we now thought our numbers might be insufficient for such a large rink, but boy, were we wrong. As soon as we started playing a couple random players arrived and bolstered our numbers. At the conclusion of the first game, Marcus and Tom had not only arrived but about another six or seven new players as well. Due to the ever increasing number of new players and virtual impossibility of keeping stats in this sort of environment, stats were abandoned for the next game. Even as this game was being played, more and more pickup players began to arrive; at its conclusion, the amount of people had reached a level of near-insanity and it was universally decided to change locations.

The drive to Verdun killed a good hour out of the afternoon and when we arrived we were in for another surprise: some large puddles and numerous extremely slippery wet spots on one half of the rink despite the sun shining gloriously (it was actually mentioned by many later in the session that it really felt like it was the middle of summer already). Despite somewhat mitigating the puddles with the aid of a few of Alex’s car towels, there were still some very slippery sections which certainly had quite an impact on the game; the one net was moved up about 20 feet from the back and rather than chase the puck into the “bad” corner, it became more of a duel of who would have to go get it (even barely moving, it was still very easy to slip on this section).

Nevertheless, we still managed to get five more games in. The first 3 games were played 4-on-4 with two teams; Pat’s team won the first game easily, but after that the other team was able to contain Pat by clogging up the neutral zone and they won the next two games handily. As 4-on-4 was deemed to be a little too congested, we then switched to a tournament format (3-on-3). The tournament, however, was never concluded as the second game saw amazing goaltending performances, especially from Dom (though not quite as good as Anderson's 51 save shutout later that night), which led the game to go on for almost an hour and most people had to leave by this time (5pm). If there’s one record this session may have broken, it would be for most time elapsed (approximately 6 hours) relative to the number of recorded games (only 6).

Thanks, Bern. Wackiness! (Just had to get the Colorado reference in there, didn't you?) And, yes, Verdun has a Parc West Vancouver). The big story- massive, really- is that Pat Elischer is NOT on top of the score sheet. In fact, he only had twelve points in five games today. After beginning his Burton career with 18 consecutive 15-pointers (sixteen of them 20-pointers), not to mention leading his past eight sessions in scoring, Ricky was dethroned by the youngest VRH regular, the irrepressible Sam Lam, who had 14 points today. Even before the sixth game, Sam was tied with Pat. Forget prospect; he’s arrived. Pat was second, and Marcus and Stefan tied for third. They were the only players to even hit double digits today. Tom would have probably been in for star points if he had played the full session. Oliver had eight points, all assists. Scoring wasn’t first-day-DecaSession low, but it was about as low as we’ve seen otherwise. All good news for the goalies, of course, who were both fantastic according to these numbers. Dom took the day with .840 and 110 saves, but Alex wasn’t far behind at .823. Game 6 saw 36 shots against Alex and 32 against Dom.

Here are the game scores:
Pat Stefan Sam Caleb Alex def. Eric Bernie Jordan Oliver Bruno Dom 5-1
Stefan Jordan Oliver Caleb Sam Dom def. Rob Bernie Pat Marcus Eric Tom Alex 3-5 5-1 5-3
Rob Marcus Sam Alex def. Pat Stefan Oliver Bernie Dom 5-1
Eric Jordan Tom Dom def. Marcus Sam Rob Alex 5-2

Season Stats: Very little changes today in the season scoring race. Stefan does pass Justin for fourth at 195 points, and Sam jumps into the top ten for the first time. He also passes Oliver for seventh in goals. Jordan needs one goal for 50; Bernie needs three. Oliver ties Nathan for fourth in assists; Pat crosses over 100 and is six behind them. Oliver falls from the top five in shooting percentage. Stefan ties Oliver for fifth in three-star points. Alex passes Shem for third in goalie star points. Pat falls behind Kyle to fifth in APG.

On the All-Time Front: Every single streak Pat had is gone. Amazing. Many thought we’d never see the day. But they’re all gone: 18 consecutive 15-pointers including 16 straight 20-pointers, four straight 25-pointers and four straight 30-pointers; 16 consecutive ten-goal sessions, four consecutive 15-goal sessions, and five straight ten-assisters. Stefan passes 1,300 career points. Sam moves from 25th to 23rd in all-time scoring; Jordan from 26th to 24th. Oliver passes Bernie for fourth in all-time VRH-only scoring. Stefan passes Oliver for third in all-time goals. Pat is three goals behind Graeme for tenth. Sam is the 20th player to score 150 goals. Oliver reaches the 1,100-assist mark. Stefan needs 15 assists for 600; Sam needs ten for 100. Dom passes Lyle for ninth in saves and is closing in on Shem for eighth; Alex passes Joe Leonard for 13th. Stefan is seven games played behind Joern for seventh. Stefan passes Kyle for fourth in three star points with 580. Dom passes Lyle for eighth in goalie star points with 175. Pat hands back the all-time PPG lead to Robert Rogers. Dom ties Joern for ninth in .800 sessions with eleven. Alex has three straight .820s. Bernie plays consecutive session number 13 (tying Kyle Grenier for the longest active streak), Oliver his seventh, Rob and Dom their sixth.

SDF/GDF: Well, there’s yet another consequence for Pat’s off-session: he hands back the keys to the top of the SDF to Kyle, who takes the top spot for the sixth time. It's the first time Pat has lost the top spot due to his own play rather than simple inactivity. Stefan drops behind Terryn to tenth, Sam gains a bunch of points in eleventh, and Tom and Marcus reach the required number of sessions for full qualification and jump to 14th and 16th accordingly. Status quo on the GDF as Taylor remains on top; Dom rises two spots to fifth.

Still no BUSH? What gives, people? Until next time, check out the Records and Honours pages in the Links section.

Wouldn't be the first time I've busted things in Vtown.

Come on down Kuschman! My sis is moving back to west van and I tried to convince her to do our stats...."That sounds really boring"

Besides, a visit down to Vtown and you might be able to bust out a resume or two..

I was thinking of combining a Vancouver trip with Jackins' stag in late June. But right now heading over immediately does sound tempting. For the moment, I am occupying myself with an interesting Burton-related project I hope to present to the world sometime around the end of the weekend and then update as needed.

Kyle, if the tumbleweeds of BUSH are getting you down, you are welcome to pay us all a visit out west. It is just turning to BBQ season and there is plenty of hockey on the horizon (even a few after work sessions being considered).

Nice touch with the Parc Vancouver Ouest

I know what you meant; I was just mentioning the two sessions with larger ratios. For multiple-game sessions, of course, this one would be at the top. Technically, through, you did have a one-hour break in the middle!

Kyle, I think you messed up the game scores. The team with Pat, Alex, me etc. lost 2 games and won 1.

Also, just wanted to add that I don't think Verdun is really that great an option for the future. It definitely seems a little too clogged for 4 on 4, and if we're gonna do a 3 on 3, then we might as well just play Ambleside. I've also heard a myriad of complaints about it being being slick with harder wheels.

I meant longest time overall compared to games played, not per single game played (ie I don't think we've ever had a session elapse that much time with that few games played). But ya, I remember that VRH session, it was at the lacross box in confederation park with the tiny nets and we were playing half court (and it was really hot out) = absolutely grueling.
Kyle wrote on April 20, 2010 @ 17:40:23 PST
Largest time-to-game ratioa, by the way, are the sessions on 1 July 2007 (K.J. on fire) for BUSH: 3 hours for one game, and 10 December 2005 (Bron's debut) for VRH: 2 1/2 hours for one game.

We made the mistake of switching to 3 on 3 tourny style at Verdun, which we thought would bring more offense, however just made the game even more defensive.
