A smaller Ambleside session was played for the first time in a while for VRH. The day began with hockey being all but canceled. Stefan looked outside, saw pouring rain, and sent out the cancellation email. Within 10 minutes he received emails from Alex, Dom, Marcus and Tom all saying the north shore had just rained, but was slowly clearing. A bit in disbelief from viewing the webcams Stefan decided to call to arms and regroup the troops and get hockey back on. By 1pm everyone had gathered at Ambleside for a shortened session. The court was dry and the sun eventually broke out to make for a perfect day of hockey. Had we not played, I think all those who showed up would have been extremely upset.

As for the play, it was a little sloppy, and somewhat lethargic. It seemed most of the skaters were all a little off. The goalies on the other hand were in top form. We started with a best of three series that featured Bernie, Oliver, Rob, Tom and Alex up against Eric, Marcus, Stefan and Dom. Dom's team came out strong and took game one 5-3. Game two team Alex led by Rob brought a tenacious forecheck that left team Dom from ever getting setup or even able to break out of their zone. Team Alex took game two handedly 5-2. Game three team Dom lead by some ridiculous moves by Marcus was a blowout ending 5-2.

We tried to get a second series in, however after the first game Tom had to take off. So we just played two single games. The last of the two had team Alex go up to a 4-1 lead. However Rob motivated his troops with his "never give up" attitude and pushed a major comeback by team Dom to end the day.

A great day for hockey. Was a shame it didn't get going until close to 2pm, which caused for a shortened session. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the new players to make this session happen however.

Of note, there was a mild bit of controversy when Rob scored a goal by a slapshot well past the blue line in Ambleside. In VRH we have kept the slap shot rule from the early days of BUSH, and Rob put into question why we still keep this rule. After some arguing back and forth the conflict was put to rest when both goalies agreed they did not want to face slapshots past center. Rob was given a penalty shot for the play, which he missed. The funniest part however was that after the decision was made, for the next 15 minutes everytime Rob got the puck he took a slapshot (from behind center of course).

Thanks, Stef. Career sessions today from Marcus and Alex. Marcus ran away with the scoring lead with 16 points on 45 shots; his first career session win in his fourth time out. Second place was Stefan at eleven points, and Tom picks up his first star points in third with nine despite missing a game. Amazingly, the other four skaters all tied at seven points! In goal, Alex was on fire again as he just keeps getting better with every session. Today he stopped 110 of 128 shots for a new career best of .859. Dom wasn’t too shabby either with .816.

Here are the game score:
Stefan Marcus Eric Dom def. Bernie Oliver Tom Rob Alex 5-3 2-5 5-2
Bernie Oliver Stefan Marcus Alex def. Tom Eric Rob Dom 5-1
Stefan Rob Eric Dom def. Marcus Oliver Bernie Alex 5-4

Season Stats: Stefan becomes the fifth player this year over 200 points; he’s 14 ahead of Nathan for fifth. Oliver passes Justin for seventh and is three behind Nathan. Bernie enters the top ten, and Rob goes to 13th. Marcus enters the top 25. Oliver passes Sam for seventh in goals. Bernie passes 50 goals. Stefan passes Justin for seventh in assists. Stefan goes over 500 shots on goal and passes Seamus for fourth. Stefan falls behind Troy and K.J. to sixth in shooting percentage. Dom passes 1,500 saves; Alex passes 1,000. Stefan needs one game for 100. Alex passes Seamus for second in games goaltended. Stefan ties Seamus for fourth in three star points.

On the All-Time Front: Rob passes brother Tony for 22nd in all-time scoring. Bernie needs 15 goals for 500. Stefan needs eight assists for 600. Bernie passes Justin for seventh in shots. Dom passes Shem for eighth in all-time saves; Alex becomes the 13th goalie to make 1,000. Stefan is three games played behind Joern for seventh. Dom is five goalie star points behind Chris Jackins for seventh. Alex pulls his career save percentage over .800. Marcus records his second career 15-pointer. Alex has four straight .820s and his first .840 and .850; Dom has two straight .810s and ten all-time. Alex has eight-straight 80-savers (tied for the third-longest streak ever); Dom has six. Alex ties’ Seamus record set yesterday for most consecutive 90-savers with eight; Dom’s streak ends at five. Dom’s 100-saver streak ends at two. Bernie plays consecutive session #14, Oliver is at eight, rob and Dom at seven. Dom becomes the third goalie to make 1,500 saves in one season, and ties Shem’s 2009 season with 103 games goaltended (second-most in a year ever). Dom’s 120 goalie star points this year is the fifth-highest mark ever seen in a single year.

SDF/GDF: This alters yesterday ranking a little bit; most notably, Marcus moves up three spots to 13th. No positions chance on the GDF, but Alex and Dom both increase their ratings.

If BUSH actually gets one together this coming week, we could see a shocking return for one infamously talented defenceman. Until next time, check out the Records and Honours pages in the Links section.

I assume you're talking about the rankings? Your actual ratings haven't changed at all (still 79.4 and 58.3); it's just a result of people who have played well in the past week seeing their ratings go up higher (Graeme, Marcus, Tom, Nathan, etc.) and knocking people down the ranking.
