With a slightly later start time due to the forecast of morning showers, as well as a late departure (due quite possibly to the numerous chalices of beer consumed the night before), we didn't get started until close to 1pm on this day. Right around that time though, the clouds began to blow away opening up a beautiful blue sky, and the rest of the afternoon would grant us the most glorious sunshine that could ever be witnessed.

Sticks produced teams of J-Bo, Pat, Ollie, Bernie & Dom versus Klopp, Marcus, Eric, Ryno and Alex. Al did his best to keep his team in it, but the relentless pressure of JPOBD eventually overcame him and they cruised on to win the series in 2 games (5-3, 5-1).

Game 3 saw the arrival of one Joern Hornhardt, the first time he would grace us with his presence in many a session. Sticks produced teams of Bernie, Ollie, Stef, Barlow, Marcus and Alex versus Pat, Ryno, Eric, Joern and Dom. Some good chemistry and strong finishing ability along with an exceptional performance from Al in net allowed Team BOSBMA to take the first two games (5-3, 5-4). Team PREJD wanted redemption though, and redemption they would have winning the next game 5-3 due partly to a very solid game in net from Dom. Also of significance in this game, Ryno caught an inadvertent elbow from J-Bo, (considering that he towers above the rest of us being close to a foot taller than many, this should be no surprise) resulting in a pronounced mark and some serious swelling right above his eyebrow; this would effectively end Ryno's day. Side note: where's Jordo when we need him (“Paramedic!”)?

In the final two games, the team of Stefan, Pat, Bernie, Marcus and Alex delivered a shellacking to Team Ollie, Joern, J-Bo and Dom (5-2, 5-0). It should be noted though that in the last game the play was not as lopsided as the 5-0 score would indicate; Team JJOD was able to blast 28 shots on net but not one would elude the phenom Alexander Elischer.

Thanks, Bernie. The brothers Elischer owned the day at Ambleside. Alex was just four one-hundredths off his career-best session, as he finished at .855 with a career-best 142 saves and his league-leading seventh shutout of the season, well-besting Dom ‘s .789, who was in the .800s all day before the final series took its toll. Pat lapped the field with 27 points today (18G-9A-67 shots). Marcus continues his solid run of session at 17 points (6G-11A), besting Oliver by an assist to take second star. Alex would appear to be rookie of the year so far, but Marcus is certainly beginning to make his own argument. Watching Taylor, Alex and Seamus battle the rest of the season for top goalie honours should be a treat. (Not to mention Shem, Laird, Bron, Golden Joe- all of those goalies are over .800 this year, too! And Dom’ll be there before long…)

Here are the game scores:
Jordan Pat Oliver Bernie Dom def. Stefan Marcus Eric Ryan Alex 5-3 5-1
Bernie Oliver Stefan Jordan Marcus Alex def. Pat Ryan Eric Joern Dom 5-3 5-4 3-5
Stefan Pat Bernie Marcus Alex def. Jordan Oliver Joern Dom 5-3 5-0

Season Stats: Pat needs one point to become the third player to hit 300 points this season; he remains the only player in VRH history to do it, having scored 307 last season. Stefan moves back into a tie for fifth with Nathan, and Oliver moves over 200 for the fourth time in his storied career. Jordan passes Bernie to re-enter the top ten; Marcus is almost into the top 20. Pat needs 13 goals for 200. Oliver moves from ninth to sixth in goals; Jordan become player number 14 to hit 50 goals this year. Stefan becomes the seventh player with 100 assists this year. Don’t look now, but Bernie is up to fourth in shooting percentage, knocking Jordan out of the top five. Alex leads Burton Hockey with seven shutouts this year. Oliver passes Nathan for sixth in three-star points; Marcus ties Ryan for eleventh. Pat falls behind Kyle to fifth in APG.

On the All-Time Front: Stefan is 35 points behind Seamus for fourth in all-time scoring; Bernie is 39 points ahead of Kyle for sixth. Pat becomes the twelfth player with 600 points; Jordan ties Sam for 24th. Pat is just six points behind Lorne for second all-time in VRH-only scoring. Stefan and Oliver remain just four goals apart for third all-time. Bernie needs nine goals for 500. Pat is 15 goals behind Graeme for tenth. Ryan needs three goals for 200. Stefan becomes the fifth player with 600 assists; Joern becomes the ninth player to hit 400. Stefan is 45 shots-on-goal behind Oliver for second. Jordan falls behind Jason in fifth in shooting percentage. Alex passes K.J. for twelfth in all-time saves. Joern passes Justin for sixth in games played, and Stefan is just one game behind Joern. Dom needs twelve games for 200. Alex ties Shem for eighth in all-time shutouts. Dom ties Chris for seventh in goalie star points at 190; Alex reaches 100. Pat is one one-thousandth of a point behind Robert Rogers for the lead in all-time PPG. Oliver joins Lee and Lorne in the 50 15-pointer club. Pat passes Lorne for third in 25-pointers with 14 (Lee 19, Kyle 15). Marcus records his first ten-assister. Alex records his fifth consecutive .800 session. Dom’s streak ends at two. Alex also has five straight .810 and .820 sessions, one short of the record shared by K.J., Justin and Shem. Alex also has back-to-back .850s. Dom is tied for sixth all-time in 80-savers with 18, including seven in a row. Alex has the third longest streak ever at 9 in a row (Chris Jackins 16, Seamus 14). Dom ties Seamus for fifth in 90-savers with 15. Alex has nine in a row, a new record (Seamus’ streak of eight is still active, however). Dom moves into fourth in 100-savers with twelve; Alex has back-to-back 110-savers. Bernie plays in 15 consecutive sessions for the seventh time in his career. Oliver’s played in nine straight, Dom in eight. Rob’s consecutive session streak ends at seven. Alex’s 1,181 saves this year rank fifth-highest for a single season; his 86 games goaltended rank fourth. Dom’s 125 goalie star points are tied with Nathan’s 2006 total for the fourth-highest mark ever.

SDF/GDF: This session finalises the rankings for the week. Pat narrows Kyle’s SDF lead to a razor-thin margin of less than a point. The biggest victim of the session is Ryan, who falls from fourth to eighth, while Marcus moves up two spots to eleventh and Stefan falls two to twelfth. Positions don’t change on the GDF, but Alex is really starting to close that gap between himself and the top three. With two bad sessions falling off in the next two rankings, and Taylor about to drop due to inactivity, Alex could be number one by the end of it all if he keeps up his recent pace.
