2008 Burton Hockey Awards
Most Outstanding Player Stefan Klopp, Vancouver (VRH) and Bron Mach, Vancouver (VRH) (tie): The first ever tie for an awards in nine seasons of the Burton game. Bron may have had two sessions where he was off slightly, but overall he was dominant in goal (especially with .900 in the last session). It would also be very easy to make an argument for Stefan, as he was easily top scorer, completely dominant in goals, and had star points in pretty much every session). Honourable mention to Lorne Bilinski for highest PPG; left a little to be desired in net, though. A few more games out for Lorne and you'd really have to think about it being his year. Most Outstanding Defenseman Oliver Koth-Kappus, Vancouver (VRH): In his first full season in VRH, Oliver continued his high level of two-way excellence. Ryan disterheft will give him a stiff run in 2009, however.
Most Outstanding Goaltender Bron Mach, Vancouver (VRH): Far and away, Bron dominated in the Ambleside net. No one here was close.
Rookie Of The Year Ryan Disterheft, North Vancouver (VRH): With 47 goals in his debut season, Ryno broke out of the rookie pack early and ran away with this award.
Most Sportsmanlike Player Ryan Disterheft, North Vancouver (VRH): Honourable mention to the aforementioned Messrs. Mach and Koth-Kappus.
Dual Threat Of The Year Lorne Bilinski, North Vancouver (VRH): With only two players eligible for the awards, Lorne only had Joern Hornhardt to fend off for this one.
Ironman Of The Year Stefan Klopp, Vancouver (VRH): Stef played all 42 VRH games AND the lone BUSH session. Honourable mention to Lorne and Joern for playing all of the VRH games.
Comeback Player Of The Year Lee Orr, Nakusp (BUSH): Hard to give this one out this year with everyone playing at their usual level. Perhaps Lee for showing up in his old form at this year's lone BUSH session qualifies him for this award.
Most Valuable Player Stefan Klopp, Vancouver (VRH): A well-deserved honour for a true Burton original. Leading scorer by far, played every game in both leagues, and did much of the organising as well. For the first time, a VRH player claims the biggest prize of all.
